Cory Short

Why work with me

Asheville roots. Business owner’s judgment. Personal attention.

Twenty years as a DJ, then The Social since October 2014, Silverados since 2020, and my real estate license in 2020. Two decades of reading a crowd and twelve years behind a bar teach you two things: how to read people, and what a working paycheck has to stretch to cover. Since the days after Hurricane Helene I have also served on the board of Valley Strong Disaster Relief, helping neighbors get back into their homes. That is what I bring to your side of the table.

  • People skills

Twenty years of DJing and twelve running The Social mean I can read a room, a seller, and a listing agent. Negotiation is a conversation, and I have had thousands of them.

  • Local knowledge

I know the blocks, the school zones, the coffee shops, and what a house here is really worth, because I live it every day, not because I read a report.

  • Responsiveness

I answer my own phone, show up early, and tell you the truth even when it isn’t what you hoped to hear. You never get handed off.

  • I understand the working man

I know what a mortgage payment means at the end of a real workweek, because my staff and my customers live it. I will not push you past what makes sense for you.

Buying

Find your next Asheville home.

Search every home for sale across Buncombe County, or start with the ones I represent. When something catches your eye, text me the address and I’ll tell you what I know about the street.

Live MLS listings, opened on my NextHome Partners search site.

How I work with buyers

  1. Search conversationLocation, budget, timing, and what you will not compromise on. Then a search set up so you see the right homes the day they list.
  2. Comparing homesSide by side: price per square foot against recent sales, condition, lot, and the things that are expensive to change later.
  3. Writing the offerPrice, due diligence fee, earnest money, and timing set to win without overpaying. I tell you where I would hold the line.
  4. Due diligence to keysInspections, repair requests, appraisal, attorney, and closing. One point of contact the whole way.

Selling

What’s your home worth?

How I sell a home

  1. Pricing conversationRecent sales around you, what makes your place different, and an honest range. You decide the number with the facts in front of you.
  2. Preparation prioritiesA short list of what is worth doing before photos and what to leave alone, so you spend money only where buyers will notice.
  3. Photography and launchProfessional photos, a clean listing, and a launch timed so the first weekend brings the most eyes.
  4. Offer reviewEvery offer laid out side by side: price, due diligence, financing, timing. I tell you what I would take and why.
  5. Closing coordinationInspections, repairs, attorney, and keys. I keep the timeline moving and keep you informed without you chasing anyone.

Neighborhoods

Three I know block by block.

Search all Asheville-area homes
  • West Asheville

Across the French Broad from downtown, built around the Haywood Road strip of restaurants, bars, and shops. Mostly 1920s to 1950s bungalows and cottages on walkable streets.

    Good to know

Small lots, big porches, and real competition. I’ll tell you which streets are quiet and which ones put you a short walk from Haywood Road.

  • Haw Creek

A quiet east Asheville valley tucked under the Blue Ridge Parkway, about ten minutes from downtown. Mid-century ranches, newer builds, and a true neighborhood feel.

    Good to know

Sloped lots and mountain views come with driveways and drainage to think about. I’ll walk the property with you before you write an offer.

    Ask me about Haw Creek
  • Oakley

South of downtown near Biltmore Village and the interstate. Modest 1940s to 1960s homes on level lots, one of the last places in town for a true starter home.

    Good to know

Older homes here often need updates. I’ll help you budget for the big items and price them into your offer.

Before you call

Questions people hesitate to ask.

Can we talk if I’m still months away from moving?

Yes, and earlier is better. We can work out timing, what a realistic budget looks like, and what to do to the house before it matters. No pressure to move faster than you want to.

What should I have ready for our first conversation?

Buyers: a rough budget or where you are with pre-approval, the areas you like, your must-haves, and your timing. Sellers: the address, anything you have done to the house, and when you would like to be moved. Nothing needs to be polished.

How do you help me decide what to do before listing?

I walk the house with you and list what buyers at your price point will notice. Then we split it into worth doing and leave alone, using recent sales to see what the market actually pays for.

Which communities do you serve?

Asheville and West Asheville first, plus Black Mountain, Swannanoa, and the rest of Buncombe County. If you are looking just outside that, ask. I will tell you honestly whether it is somewhere I know well.

Will I work directly with you the whole way?

Yes. Me from the first call to the keys, with no team handoff. I answer my own phone and you always know where things stand.
